Teo - The Tiny Taniwha is a story about a little spirit guardian who lives on an island. Taniwha (pronounced ‘Tah-nee-far’) are giant monsters of myth and legend in New Zealand. Their battles formed lakes, but little Teo is happy protecting his home from intruders and invaders. One day he is plucked from his island home and ends up on the mainland. Teo must navigate through this strange world full of unusual challenges, if he wants to make his way back home.
Presented here are the first 10 pages of a short graphic novel exploring Teo’s world and introducing his character. New Zealand has a huge problem protecting its native wildlife from introduced predators like stoats, weasels, possums, rats, wild dogs and cats. My idea with Teo was to give them someone who would help defend the native wildlife.
